A desperate housewife who lives in Akwukwu-Igbo community near Asaba, Delta State, Eunice (surname withheld), has allegedly stolen a two-year-old neighbour’s baby and sold it for N250,000.00.

Reports said that the woman, who is currently helping the police and cooling off her heels at the state’s police, CID, Asaba, was said to have arranged for the sale of the baby with a woman who was said to have been married for 18 years without a child in Lagos before the bubble burst.

It was reliably gathered that a trusted neighbour had last Wednesday appealed to Eunice to help look after the baby to enable her buy some food items in a neighbouring community’s market.

Eunice, however, put a call across to the said buyer (now at large). The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the arrest of the woman, disclosed that the suspect had disappeared after selling the baby.

Facebook Is Now Cited As A Factor In A Third Of Divorce Cases

It’s no secret that we have a tendency to over-share on Facebook, and now new statistics show that it’s being used as a source of evidence for a growing number of divorces.
Leeds-based law firm, Lake Legal have said that it was cited in more than a third (66 out of 200) of divorce cases they examined.
The firm’s managing partner, Lyn Ayrton, told MailOnline: ‘Social media provides an ongoing log of our lives. The sharing of written posts and pictures, often with geo-tagging, provides a record of activities that can be used in a court case.’
The law firm revealed that many of their cases revolved around the fact that people had used the site to track down and get back in touch with exes, or posted information that contradicted claims about their finances.
Aderton explains: ‘Often, if a partner refers to an impending bonus, a new job offer, or plans for a holiday, it may provide evidence that they are not telling the truth about their financial position. At the very least, it could call their credibility into question.’
She added: ‘Somebody said she was not in a relationship with anybody new but then posted a message inviting everybody to a housewarming party for her and her boyfriend.’
We imagine the latter would of got out even with just good old fashioned word of mouth. But this is further proof that if you’re up to no good, it’s best to keep it off of your newsfeed, or at least tighten your privacy settings.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ademola Omole, made the revelation while briefing newsmen on the arrests his command made during and after the yuletide season.

The Commissioner said that the father of the two girls, Igwe Samson, a business man based in the city, reported the case to the Kurmi division and the police moved to arrest the accused.
Admitting his sordid crime while begging for mercy, the accused said it was the devil that made him carry out the act.

"I lost my wife almost 10 years ago and my first daughter is 34-years-old. This is a mistake and I think it is the work of the devil. This is the first time in my life that I would do such a thing and I wish it never happened."
The police said the accused will be charged to court as soon as they are done with their investigations.

Two prominent Nigerians the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen Muhammadu Buhari, mentioned as his classmates in secondary school – former president of the Court of Appeal (PCA), Justice Umaru Abdullahi and former inspector-general of police, Alhaji Ibrahim Cooomassie – last night spoke on the personality of Buhari.

In an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP in Abuja, Umaru Abdullahi and Coomassie said they and about five prominent Nigerians attended the same school.

Coomasie said Buhari was the head boy and loved to play football during their days in school.

Coomasie mentioned the former PCA Justice Abdullahi; Gen Shehu Musa Yar’Adua; the late Grand Khadi Halilu, and a Second Republic senator Abdul Ali as some of their classmates.

Coomassie said:
“While we were in school, Buhari was the head boy. He loves playing football. We were all close friends in school. After we finished secondary school, General Buhari decided to join the military, I joined the police and Justice Abdullahi decided to go to the university.
I, the late Shehu Yar’Adua, the late Halilu, a Grand Khadi in Katsina, Senator Abdul Ali, a Senator in the 2nd Republic and several other attended the same school”
On his part, Justice Abdullahi described Buhari as a brilliant student when they were in school, saying he was Buhari’s classmate from primary to secondary school, saying:
“I, Buhari and some others had the best results during our final examinations in secondary school back then. He was a very brilliant student in school, no doubt; we attended the same school from primary to secondary school.
Authorities of Government College, Katsina, yesterday confirmed that General Buhari sat and obtained the school leaving certificate and released his result. The result showed that Buhari got the following scores:

  • English – 5 (credit), Hausa-5 (credit) English Lit – 7(pass), History -3 (Good), Geography – 6 (Credit) Maths – 9 (Fail), Health Science – 6 (credit), Woodwork – 9 (fail).

Buhari Should Withdraw From The Election And Report To The Nearest Police Station - Femi Fani-Kayode

Spokesperson of the PDP Presidential campaign organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode has called on the APC Presidential candidate, Gen Buhari to withdraw from the presidential race following the controversy surrounding the latter's academic qualification. He made this call yesterday while addressing newsmen in Abuja
"Information reaching us now has shown that the Presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed today (yesterday) in Kano at a press conference that the affidavit he swore to in which he claimed that his credentials were in the custody of the military was not true after all. The implication of the action of this so-called “Mr Clean” is nothing but perjury and we all know that this is a grave criminal offense under our laws and constitution.

We urge Buhari and his party to do the right thing and tender an unreserved apology to the Nigerian people, throw in the towel and report to the nearest police station for interrogation and prosecution. Anything less than that would be an insult to the collective intelligence and integrity of the Nigerian people. We also urge the Nigerian Armed Forces to consider the possibility of stripping him of his rank and privileges given the fact that he was never qualified to join the Nigerian Army as a commissioned officer in the first place because he never had the prerequisite qualification which was a school certificate. Given this, at best Buhari should never have been anything more than a non-commissioned officer.” he said.

Fashola Signs Law To Merge All Land Registration Laws

$

Coming on the heels of an Executive Order reducing cost of land transaction in Lagos, the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola SAN, Wednesday again signed into law another bill seeking to further ease processes in land transactions in the state, saying it is the responsibility of government to make land transactions easy for the prosperity of the people.
Titled, “A Law to Consolidate All Laws Relating to Registration of Land in Lagos State”, the law seeks, according to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, “to enable Lagosians have easy access to register their proprietary interest in Land seamlessly”, among others.
In his remarks shortly before signing the bill into law, Governor Fashola noted that it was important to secure land as an asset because of its importance to the prosperity of people, adding that in basic economics, land is a very important asset to capital formation.
Reiterating that it is the responsibility of government to maintain a registry of titles to land that has the highest level of integrity, the Governor said to the extent that land registration helps to create the divisions of land registry, it decentralizes the process and therefore improves access to land.

“In our basic economics, land is a very important asset to capital formation, you can’t start a bank, you can’t start a business, you can’t farm; you can’t even extract crude oil without identifying a particular piece of land or oil well. So it’s the basics of capital formation, it’s the basics of prosperity; it’s the basics of economic well being and the basics for job,” he said.
Governor Fashola, who noted that Western nations prospered by the way they have registered and titled all land assets, said the enabling law greatly enhanced the process of land registration such that a prospective land buyer would not need to see anybody but just go to the registry and know whether or not he should buy that land.

“So you don’t need somebody to come and tell you the history of how the land evolved from 20 families and one owner, once you go to the library registry you will see all the transactions there and your lawyer would be able to advise you whether to go on or not to go on”, the Governor said adding that it would also save a lot of time in getting transactions concluded.
The law, he said, would also strengthen the hand of government in the administration of the Land Use Act adding that his administration has even started issuing certificate of title to farmers which, according to him, “would form part of the bulwark of titles that would come under the scope of these harmonized laws.”
Advancing further reasons why the law was necessary, Governor Fashola said access to loans by farmers would be assisted through the law, adding that one of the reasons why farmers could not get small loans “in spite of all the work that has been done” was that banks tell them that they don’t have collateral although the farmers are sitting on land which is not in the structured form that the bank would take it from them.
“But once you have a reliable register and they say they have C of O, they can check and the banks can lend them money against that asset and anybody who wants to use that asset in a joint venture knows that it is a secure title,” the Governor said, adding, “and this is where again the job of the registrar of titles is a very important job that must be done with the highest level and measure of integrity.”
Recalling that he signed an Executive Order reducing the cost of land transaction in the state recently, the Governor noted, “Of course our electronic C of O is part of the bulwark of the titles that come here. What we do here is consistent with our reforms and attempt to improve land administration and ease of doing business continuously.”
The Governor thanked the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye and members of the State House of Assembly for enhancing the formulation and passage of the bill adding that he had no difficulty in signing the bill into law “for its many informative initiatives and the fact also that it is consistent with the position which we have already taken that the Land Use Act in itself is not the problem of land access as a law.”
According to Governor Fashola, “What has been a challenge, as I have argued, is the way the Act is administered and if we continue to administer land transactions the way we were doing it 50 years ago without being mindful that the population has grown, that demands for land services has grown and that there is need for automation and reforms in the land administration system, then we will not be diagnosing the problem appropriately.”
On other things his administration has done to reform land administration processes, Governor Fashola, who noted that “automation and the use of technology are the defining issues here”, added, “whereas in some other parts of the country the process produces only a dozen or so land permits or applications, we are doing thousands per day in Lagos. So those methods of response clearly would not take us there.”
Earlier, while introducing the bill, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, said the Law would harmonize former land laws of the State namely; The Registered Land Law Cap R1; Registration of Titles Law and Registration of Titles (Appeals) Rules. Cap. R4, The Land Instruments Registration Law Cap. L58 and The Electronic Document Management Systems Law 2007.
The Attorney-General also introduced the new Registrar of Titles in the Lagos State Land Bureau in the person of Mrs. Modupe Osho-Adebiyi.
Also present at the event were members of the State Executive Council, including the Deputy Governor, Hon. (Mrs.) Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Commissioner for Information, Mr. Lateef Ibirogba and his Special Duties, Home Affairs and Culture, and Energy and Mineral resources counterparts, Dr. Wale Ahmed, Hon. Oyinlomo Danmole and Engnr Taofeek Tijani and Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Engnr Ganiyu Johnson, among other dignitaries and top government functionaries.

NYDailyNews:  A 2-year-old Florida boy shot and killed himself Wednesday after he got a hold of his dad’s loaded gun, officials said.
Kaleb Ahles’ dad, Kevin Ahles, left the tot alone in his car while the family moved out of their home in the East Lake neighborhood of Tarpon Springs. Then, Kaleb found a gun in the secured glove box and accidentally pulled the trigger, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said.
“It’s just one of those things that happens wherKevin Ahlese everything lined up the wrong wayf where we had a 2-and-a-half-year-old that was able to take a gun, pick it up, turn it around, and he shot himself dead center in the middle of the chest,” Gualtieri said.

Kaleb fired a single shot into his chest, officials said. His mom, 23-year-old Christina Nigro, and several other family members started CPR.
The 2-year-old was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital around 5 p.m.
Officers are confident the boy pulled the trigger: The shell casing was not fully expelled from the weapon, a sign that the shooter had a weak wrist, Fox 13 explained.
For those wondering, police say:
“The evidence points to the fact that it was in the glove box, that it wasn’t anywhere else. That it wasn’t carelessness,” Gualtieri said. “Sometimes, bad things happen.”
The Sheriff’s office is investigating, but Kevin Ahles, 23, likely will not face charged, officers said.
“I don’t think anybody can punish these parents any more than what they’ve been punished,” Gualtieri said, according to WFLA.

The Daily Commercial reports: A 36-year-old woman has been accused of knocking out two under-aged boys with alcoholic drinks at her Leesburg home before having sex with them.
A 12-year-old victim told Leesburg police that Barbara Ellen Kirby gave him a mixed drink that made him feel “dizzy and unsteady,” so he went into her bedroom to lie down, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Then Kirby and another unknown adult male allegedly convinced the child to smoke some marijuana before the couple performed a sex act in front of him as he fell to sleep.
The affidavit adds when the child woke up, the adult male was missing and Kirby was taking off his and her clothes, before getting on top of him to engage in sex. The child said he told Kirby to stop, got dressed and went home.
A 13-year-old victim told detectives a similar version, saying he was at Kirby’s apartment when she offered him a drink. He added that after finishing the drink, he immediately began to feel dizzy and light-headed before falling asleep.

The child said at some point he woke up to find himself naked and lying on the living room couch, with Kirby taking off her clothes.
She allegedly began kissing and fondling the boy, saying “age is just a number,” before getting on top of him to engage in sex. The teen said the act left him confused and embarrassed, and he dressed himself and went home.
Kirby was charged Tuesday with lewd and lascivious battery as well as tampering with a victim after allegedly threatening to kill the 13-year-old if he told anyone what happened. She remained in the Lake County jail Wednesday in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Popular Alaba Trader WhoTerrorise Lagos & His Gang Arrested For Robbery

A popular trader in Alaba International Market, Lagos, and a gang leader, Nnamdi (surname withheld) has been arrested by the police for alleged armed robbery.

Nnamdi and six others are being interrogated at the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the police command, Ikeja.

The suspected bandits who were paraded yesterday by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Aderanti, at the command headquarters, Ikeja, yesterday spoke of how they were decieving people that they were businessmen.

Nnamdi said: “I am a businessman in Alaba International Market. I deal in musical equipment. The same thing is applicable to my members. They have businesses in the market. Some sell generator parts or sets, others sell one thing or the other to decieve people that we are doing genuine businesses.“I got N28 million in one robbery operaton. There is really big money in armed robbery because what business can one do to make N28 million in one day? We robbed a man coming in from Cotonou. It was our informant that told us that the man was coming into the country. It was the most successful robbery operation that I ever participated in. I got N28 million, others got between N25 million and N28 million, depending on their roles. I am the gang leader. The second robbery was in Cotonou, we raided a bank. We got big money also, but I can’t say how much but, I got N17 million and my boys got about N5 million each. Robbery in Cotonou is easier than in Nigeria. In Cotonou, you don’t even need a gun to operate. We got it easy in Cotonou robbery. But in Nigeria, especially in Lagos, you need to be very careful.

“Well, I built a very magnificient building in my village. I have another one in Lagos. I bought some cars, but I am regretting everything now. I am going to face big shame both in the market and in my village because people see me as a big guy. What of my church? I am finished, I am a Catholic and an active church member who belongs to many societies, my church members will now see me as an evil person. I am exposed to ridicule. Well, most people in Alaba International Market, and other markets are into armed robbery or other illegal businesses.

“Like Victor (surname also withheld), he is my gang member and he sells generator sets. He is equally seen in the market as a big man. The other person, Ifeanacho (aka Messiah) is not in Alaba Market, but when he got big money, he invested in trucks. He also bought some taxis and commercial buses. He really utilized his money very well, but all is now vanity.

“My advice to people is that they should not envy people they see in affluence as they may have acquired their wealth through illegal means, especially armed robbery. Moreso, the money you got through armed robbery brings apprehension as you live in perpetual fear. Now, I have been living in fear and the thing I was fearing all this while has finally happened to me.I have been arrested and I don’t know my fate yet,” Nnamdi said.

CP Aderanti who paraded the suspects said they were international armed robbers who have all confessed to the Officer in charge of SARS, Abba Kyari and his team that they participated in several robberies including bank robbery in Port Novo, Benin Republic, a filling station and Bureau de change in Mali. They made an attempt to rob a bank on Shagamu Road, Ikorodu. They participated in several robberies in Port Harcourt, Kano and the biggest of it all, N100 milion successful robbery in Alakija area of Lagos from which Nnamdi built a mega mansion at Igando area of the metroplis and Ifeanacho built a duplex in his village in Ebonyi State”
CP Aderanti said he has ordered Kyari to go after other fleeing members of the gang.

DailyMailTwin 9-year-old boys were left mostly alone in their New Hampshire apartment for four months after their parents took three siblings to Nigeria and left an uncle to care for them, authorities said Thursday.
Manchester police said the uncle, 25-year-old Giobari Atura, told them he would stop by every couple of days to drop off food, but when police got involved in November, they found no edible food in the refrigerator and only ramen noodles in a cabinet.
Atura was charged in December with one count of endangering the welfare of a child and was freed on $500 bail. Atura’s older brother, Jerusalem Monday, left for Nigeria with his wife and three of their children in July, intending to return in August. They told police they were delayed by illness and passport problems.
The case came to light in November when officials at the boys’ school told the state Division of Children, Youth and Families that the twins had been living on their own for months. The kids were getting themselves up and on the bus, then eating breakfast and lunch at school.
In a police affidavit, Atura said he’d stop by the apartment on days that he went to work, but that didn’t happen every day. He said he checked on the boys three days a week and told them to call him if they needed anything.
“It should be noted that no operable phone was located within the apartment,” the affidavit says.

Black San Diego Police Officer Sues After Being Punished For Complaining About Racist Cartoon Used In Training

A California police officer is headed to court to face his police department after he says he was reprimanded for being offended at a blatantly racist cartoon used in training.
NBC San DiegoA San Diego Police sergeant is suing the city and the police department for harassment and retaliation after he complained about a cartoon shown in training.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday alleges Sgt. Arthur Scott was reassigned and passed up for a promotion because he spoke up after seeing what he considered an offensive cartoon at the San Diego Police Museum.
The cartoon was included in the complaint and shows an ape dressed in a San Diego police uniform walking on patrol. In the cartoon, the officer is labeled “Cop McCarter”, a reference to Officer Frank McCarter, the first African American police officer in the city.

Scott said he saw the cartoon with other officers in an August 2014 training session led by retired SDPD Lieutenant, Tom Giaquinto.
After the training Scott, who is a Vice President for the San Diego Police Black Officers Association, told a supervisor about the cartoon and told him it had no place in police training, according to the complaint.
He said he was called into the office of Assistant Chief Todd Jarvis to discuss the cartoon. According to the lawsuit filing, Jarvis told Scott the cartoon would not longer be part of the training session but at the same time tried to defend its use.
Scott claims his “forced transfer” to Central Division on Jan. 7 was a result of the complaint and being an “outspoken member of the SDPBOA.”
From the looks of this obviously-racist photo and given the fact that the department was bold enough to use it in a training class, we’d guess that this case will end in this police department taking a well-deserved

An oil worker with Halliburton Nigeria Limited, Bankole Charles, must have thought he was playing with an ordinary woman when he met Loretta Odikagbo, on Badoo, a dating site on social media, and started a relationship with her.

Little did he know that the affair would end his life when the same lady led some men to his house to snuff life out of him when she found out that he was married with children.

The 28-year-old Okadigbo met the deceased who is from Ondo State on the site in 2013 and they kicked off a relationship without knowing he was a married man and had hopes of getting married to him till she found out that he was already taken and in a fit of jealousy, organized his murder.

The breakingpoint cane when she found out that Charles was married and when she confronted him, he owned up to it but promised to buy her a car as compensation but when he failed to fulfil his promise, Okadigbo enlisted the help of one Ime Francis Moses, an Akwa Ibom indigene and another man who is still at large and stormed his Woji, Port Harcourt, Rivers State residence, and ended his life.

Odikagbo, an Ordinary National Diploma holder in Marketing from the River State Polytechnic (RIVPOLY), and Moses, a university drop out, are now languishing in the cells of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), after they were arrested following the murder of Charles.

The SCID team traced Odikagbo to the residence of her other boyfriend whom she was putting up with at Rumukpokwu, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on December 10, last year.

Odikagbo confessed to her crime:

"I was arrested over the death of my boyfriend, late Charles Bankole. I conspired with my friend and took my in-law to his house to harass him so I could get some money from him, which led to his death, but I was not there when he died.

I was at the Automated Teller Machine (ATM). There is a third person that can tell the story of how he died but unfortunately, he has not been arrested. So, he is not here now. This story can’t be complete if the third person is not arrested.

I am 28 years. I met Bankole on the internet. I initially did not know that Bankole was married; overtime I discovered. He actually promised to settle things with me. He talked about buying a car.

When I hinted this to my in-law (Ime), he said he had a way to help me get what I wanted from him and I conceded to the idea.

On the agreed day, I moved into Bankole’s house and waited for them there. He came with another of his friend. I opened the door for them. They came in.

His junior started tying Bankole up. Ime was holding a torch which they came with because this happened in the night and there was no electricity supply and it was raining heavily.

At a point, I decided to go to the ATM with his (Bankole’s) card to withdraw some money from his bank account. One of the two men decided to go with me. So, my in-law (Ime) was left behind with Bankole who was still alive when we left.

He (Ime) later met me at the ATM point to get some money from me. He informed me that he called a taxi driver to carry some things from Bankole’s house. I told him that I was going because it was already late at night.

I was arrested on December 10, brought here (at the SCID), and showed picture of lifeless body of Bankole. I don’t know who killed him. The relationship lasted for over a year. I am not so certain because we related a long time on the Internet before we met in real life."

On her reaction that the late man was married, she said:

"I was not actually angry, but he did not just tell me he was married. We never discussed marriage.

At a point, we were serious with the relationship but when I discovered his marital status, I was disappointed and decided to pull out to continue with my life but he insisted on buying me a car instead to calm me down. That was what happened.

I feel so terrible and primitive. I am guilty of the crime. Bankole was my first Internet boyfriend; I am not used to meeting people on the Internet or Facebook. I blame my action on hanging out with wrong friends."

But the Eket-born Ime gave a different account on how Charles died, making it clear that it was Loretta that actually killed him.

Hear his account:

"Loretta called and informed me that her boyfriend owed her some money, which he was supposed to use and settle her out of their broken relationship but he was turning her up and down.

I promised to help her get the money out from the man. On the day agreed, she called me and picked me up at my street junction, from where we proceeded to pick another boy she had earlier called for the job, but the boy came and declined going with us.

On our way out from the boy’s junction, we met another boy who I know that loads taxi at the junction there. I called him and she explained to him what she wanted to do that night; he agreed to go with us.

When we got to the man’s house, she went in while we stood under the staircase of the one-storey building he shared with other occupants, waiting for her instructions. I was holding a torch light which she gave me money to buy and a holding a car window winder, which looked like a gun, while the boy was holding a rope and cellotape she brought.

After a while, she came and opened the door for us. We got in through the kitchen, where we stood before she called us to come to the bedroom where she was with the man.

When we stepped into the room, I pointed the torch light on the man and told him that he befriended our sister for such a period of time, and pushed her out empty and without shelter, no settlement.

The man pleaded that we should wait, that he was going to settle her. At that point, she started to slap the man all over his face and used the tape to tape his mouth, after which the other boy tied his legs and hands.

It was then she asked the man for his ATM card and pin; she got them and went to the ATM point with the boy, while I was left with the man in case the pin failed. While they left for the ATM, they carried the man’s phone and laptop.

After a while, she came back to me at the man’s house. I asked her to come let us go, she said, ‘no’, that the man knows her very well, that if we should leave him at this junction, he will definitely come after her, and that when he gets her, she will mention my name. She asked if I will like to be arrested, I said ‘no’.

She now went to the man’s kitchen and brought polythene bag which she wore on the man’s head and sat on it. As the man was struggling, I held his head until the man was motionless.

She gave me N28, 000 only. I feel very guilty for the action."
