Terror Group Boko Haram Abduct 80 Kids And Women Days After 'Deadliest Massacre'

The Islamic extremists are said to have snatched residents from the villages of Mabass and Makxy in the north-east of the country.
And now military forces from other nations are moving in to help battle the terrorist uprising.
The incident comes day after the Islamic extremists massacred as many as 2,000 people during a conquest to seize control of towns and villages in Nigeria last week.
Boko Haram were also responsible for the abduction of 200 Nigerian schoolgirls last April that sparked a worldwide #BringBackOurGirls appeal.
On Sunday morning, suspected militants arrived at the villages in the early hours of Sunday morning when it was still dark and left in the direction of Nigeria with scores of hostages.
Cameroonian defence official said: “According to our initial information, around 30 adults, most of them herders, and 50 young girls and boys aged between 10 and 15 years were abducted."
District head Baba Abba Hassan said most victims are children, women and elderly people who could not run fast enough from the insurgents carrying rifles and rocket launchers.

It has been reported that four people have died trying to fend off the attackers.
Military forces from neighbouring Chad are now reportedly moving into Cameroon with dozens of tanks, armoured vehicles and other military equipment to fight the group.
Following last weeks attacks, Cameroon has criticised Nigeria for failing to do more to confront Boko Haram.
Hundreds of bodies – too many to count – remain strewn in the bush in Nigeria as armed gunmen left whole villagers looking like slaughter houses.
Amnesty International described the reaid as the “deadliest massacre” in the history of Boko Haram.
While Muhammad Abba Gava, a spokesman for poorly armed civilians fighting the group told AP: “The human carnage perpetrated by Boko Haram terrorists in Baga was enormous."

Army's First Transgender Officer Has Praised The Military For Being ‘Very Forward Thinking’

The British Army’s ‘first transgender officer’ said she had to come out and live as a woman after she realised she was ‘living an act’ as a man serving on the front line in Afghanistan.
Captain Hannah Winterbourne praised the military for being ‘very forward thinking’.
Captain Winterbourne said, ‘In Afghanistan I was living an act. I was acting for everyone around me. There was no let up where I could not stop that act.
‘In my part of the tent there were seven guys living on top of each other. Previously I’d relished my own time where I could be honest with myself.

‘In Afghanistan I could not do that. So that was a nudge which eventually ended up with me coming out and changing myself and my way of life.’
The officer, of the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers, told The Sun she realised her ‘body was wrong’ at the age of 23 while at Sandhurst for officer training.
The 27 year old said she feared the reaction of senior officers.
Capt Winterbourne did not reveal her former name as a man, and aid her feelings about her gender started from a young age.
It was not until much later she decided to go through with the transformation and begin hormone therapy.
‘The point where I realised I was a woman but my body was wrong was around age 23 at Sandhurst. But I wrongly thought I couldn’t do anything about it,’ she said.
‘Then I went to my first unit. All of a sudden I’ve got soldiers under my command. I thought, ‘This isn’t the time to do it, I’ll just bear with it’. But those feelings never go away.’
The military has won several equality accolades in recent times, including last year being named the world’s second most gay friendly military in the world by a think-tank, while the MoD won the most improved employer award in Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index.

Court Nullifies Ban on Abalaka’s HIV/AIDS Vaccine

After 16 years, a Federal High Court in Makurdi, Benue State, has declared the ban placed by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration on the use of HIV/AIDS vaccine discovered by a surgeon, Jeremiah Abalaka, as illegal, null and void.

Justice Binta Nyako in a 32-page judgment obtained by journalists during a press briefing on Saturday in Abuja, held that efforts like this should be encouraged.

Abalaka and his hospital, Medicrest Specialist Hospital Limited, Gwagwalada, had dragged the Federal Government to court seeking a declaration that the July 20, 2000 ban or suspension of the use of HIV vaccine he discovered was illegal, null and void, because it violates his Patent No. RP 13567 dated July 22, 1999.The President, Attorney-General of the Federation and the National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control were joined as defendants in the suit.

Abalaka had told the court how he took blood from an infected person, treated it and re-injected it back into the person.
“That he did this on himself, using the blood of an infected person and after three months tested himself and he is negative,” the court held.
The surgeon had also informed the court that he had treated infected persons with their consent and quite a few reverted to negative.

According to him, even though he had informed the officials in the Federal Ministry of Health of his major breakthrough and sought their collaboration, they were not cooperative, but instead, set up a committee that wanted him to give them his patent.

Despite his victory, Abalaka says he has not forgiven the former President for the ban placed on his vaccine. He said:
“For me, I think it is a matter of basis; you can forgive someone or ignore what the person has done. Obasanjo has not apologised to me? How does forgiveness for him come up? Even if you believe in God as I do, we confess our sins to God before God forgives us. God is Almighty; even when we do wrong, we go to God and seek forgiveness.
Obasanjo has not apologised to me in anyway; so for me, the issue of forgiveness for Obasanjo is premature and out of place. I can ignore all he has done and that is the only option available to me.''

Soldiers from 144 Battalion, Asa, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State have rescued 14 pregnant teenagers and eight children from a motherless babies’ home at Umunkpeyi Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Vanguard reports.

Also arrested by the soldiers were six young men, who claimed to be staff of the home, and two girls, aged 16 and 25.

However, the proprietress of the home, Mrs. Nma Charity, is still at large.

It was gathered that Mrs. Charity claimed to be running a government-approved home, but engages in child trafficking and hiring of men who impregnates the teenage girls.

Sources told Vanguard that on delivery, each girl got N20,000, while their babies were sold for between N80,000 and N150,000 for females and males, respectively.
One of the suspects, who was caught at Eke-Akpara in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area, while trying to steal a baby, confessed that he had been in the business with Mrs. Charity for a long period, stating that his role was to steal a child and deliver it to the her, who in turn sold it to her customers.

Acting on the confession of the suspect, the Commanding Officer 144 Battalion, Lt. Col. Omolori Rasheed, ordered his men to raid the home where about 14 pregnant teenagers and six young men were arrested, while the proprietress of the home was away at the time of the raid.

A soldier, who declined to have his name in print, told Vanguard that the babies, between the ages of one and six, and the pregnant teenagers, would be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic inPersons and Other Related Matters, NAPTIP, while the other persons would be handed over to the police for prosecution.

Baby Who Died FIVE Times In Hospital Returns Home Alive And Well With Overjoyed Mother

A MIRACLE baby who died five times in hospital has been described as a "warrior" by her mum after she was finally free to return home – alive and well.

Mum Maxie Foster gave birth to her daughter Isla Allen on August 12 last year - just 24 weeks into her pregnancy.
The youngster spent six months fighting for her life as she battled with multiple medical problems.
Isla suffered with a serious heart problem Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) as well as bleeding on the brain in which she needed three life-saving operations.
She also had so many blood transfusions over the time that her fingertips went black from wearing constant cannulas – and she almost had to have them amputated.

On five separate occasions Isla's tiny heart stopped, forcing doctor's into emergency action.
In one instance it stopped for 30 minutes and the youngster was without oxygen for 10 MINUTES.
She even became so ill at one point after contracting necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) that she almost had part of her bowel removed.
Doctor's worked extremely hard to make Isla's fight easier.
And six months on their hard work has paid off.
Maxie, 25, and her partner Anthony Allen, 33, were given the all clear to return home by doctors - saying Isla was strong enough o battle on by herself.
The proud mum, who lives in Cambrisdgeshire, said she cannot believe that her 1.7lb little girl is still here.
"I don't think there are words to describe how strong that baby is," she said.
"She's a warrior. I could never see the day when I could bring her home. When I was giving birth I remember looking up and thinking 'is my baby going to live or die?', I did not know what was going on or how to react.
"Waiting to see if she would pull through was excruciating and I've never been so worried in my life."
sla is still suffering from chronic lung disease and has to cope with being severely deaf but doctors revealed she is better than ever and now quickly on the mend.
Maxie, who also looks after her seven-year-old son Lewis, said she is so glad her baby girl is home and safe.
She added: "I'm so glad she is alive and well and she is improving each day, but we don't know what the future holds for her at this stage.
"I am proud beyond belief, I can't quite believe everything that's happened and what she's been through.
"I'm sure that soon it will all hit my like a ton of bricks but I'm so glad she's home."

We Don’t Have Original Copy Of Buhari’s Result – Nigerian Army

Following the unending controversy over the possession of a secondary school certificate by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari, the Army Tuesday  clear the air saying, “The Nigerian Army does not have the original copy of his West African Examination Council result or a Certified True Copy”.

Aside not having these documents in their possession, the Army said General Buhari has not yet applied for the release of any of his documents from the Military Secretary’s office.

Making the disclosures at a briefing in Abuja, outgoing Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Olajide Laleye noted that what the army has, which he displayed are Form 199A, that  was filled at the point of entry and some letters of recommendation by Principal of Provincial Secondary School, Katsina.

Olajide words, “Records available indicate that Major General Muhammadu Buhari applied to join the military as a Form Six student of the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina on 18 October 1961. His application was duly endorsed by the Principal of the school, who also wrote a report on him and recommended him to be suitable for military commission”.

The report which was shown to newsmen read, “I recommend Mohammadu Buhari fit for military commission”.

Regarding his result, the Principal wrote, “I consider that he will pass Maths, English and 3 other subjects”.

Speaking further, Laleye who said the briefing was necessitated by deluge of requests from civil society groups, the media, etc. over General Buhari’s eligibility for any political office, said, “It is a practice in the Nigerian Army that before candidates are shortlisted for commissioning into the officers ‘cadre of the service, the selection board verifies the original copies of credentials that are presented”.

“However, there is no available record to show that this process was followed in the 1960s. Nevertheless, the entry made on the Nigerian Army form 199A at the point of documentation after commission as an officer indicated that the former head of state obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1961 with credits in relevant subjects: English Language, Geography, History, Health Science, Hausa and a pass in English Literature”.

“Neither the Original Copy, Certified True Copy (CTC) nor Statement of result of Major General Muhammadu Buhari’s WASC result is in his personal file. What I have said here is what is contained in his service records, personal file. We have not added anything nor subtracted anything” .

Earlier, Brig-General Laleye said, “Let me state clearly that that the Nigerian Army holds the retired senior officer in very high esteem and respect and would not be a party to any controversy surrounding his eligibility for any political office. Suffice to state that Major General Buhari rose steadily to the enviable rank of Major General before becoming head of state of our dear country in December 1983”.

Vanguard recalls that the APC Presidential Candidate submitted a sworn affidavit to INEC in which he stated that his academic qualifications making his eligible to contest the 2015 presidential elections were with the Nigerian Army Military Secretary’s office.

Women Faked Her Own Death To Get Out Of A Date

If you’ve ever felt guilty after giving a date the brush-off, this woman’s harsh tactics will make you feel a whole lot better.
The Mirror has been posting the most shocking tales of dating gone wrong in the lead up to Valentine’s, and a woman from Somerset has gone viral after admitting she went as far as faking her death to avoid a date.
Anna Gray, 29, sent in her story explaining how she’d been on a few dates with a guy she’d met online before realising she just wasn’t that into him.
However, he just wasn’t getting the hint:  ‘He continued to message me and the day came when he sent me one stating ‘I think we need to have a date tonight! I will be around your house in 30 minutes,’ she said.

So what’s a girl to do? In the string of messages, which you can see here, Anna starts out trying to put off her date by posing as her sister and pretending she’s been admitted to hospital with a ‘serious illness’. When he continued to persist and asked to visit her, she then dropped the bombshell that she’d died. Ouch.
Either smelling a rat, or totally heartbroken, the guy never replied. However, Anna told The Mirror that a few months later, the man in question sent her a ‘horrid message’ after spotting her profile – nope, not an obituary – on another dating site.
‘Can’t say I blame him’ she said. We’d have to agree: karma’s a bitch, Anna.

30,000 Beijing Couples Apply To Have Second Child

The Beijing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning said on Tuesday that more than 30,000 Beijing couples have applied to have second child since the capital eased its one-child policy in February 2014.
Zhong Dongbo, the Deputy Head of the Commission, said in Beijing that out of the 30,305 applicants, 28,778 had been approved.
He said the number was, however, lower than the 50,000 expected, adding that “many couples who wanted to have second child chose not to have them this year, but this does not mean that they won’t have them in future.

“Maybe they’re just not ready, maybe it is due to economic cost or time cost or they are contented with one child.”
Dongbo said Beijing was prepared for an increase of 50,000 births every year.
He said an extra 1,000 beds would be arranged in Beijing hospitals within three years.

Three In Serious Condition After Up To 10 Israelis Are Stabbed In ‘Terrorist’ Bus Attack

A Palestinian man who stabbed up to 10 people in an attack on a bus in Tel-Aviv has been shot, Israeli police have said.
The suspect attacked people both on and outside the bus on Maariv bridge in the central part of the city in what police are treating as a terrorist attack, they said. The perpetrator was shot in the leg by officers as he tried to get away.
At least three of the victims are said to be in serious condition and officers are patrolling the area, according to police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.
‘Shortly after he boarded the bus, the assailant stabbed the driver several times but there was an excellent response from him as he resisted the attack and in this way the terrorist was stunned,’ Tel Aviv police commander Bentzi Sau told Reuters.

‘The suspect is a 23-year-old Palestinian from Tulkarem,’ police spokeswoman Luba Samri added.
Tulkarem is a city in the occupied West Bank.
Israeli police say that unsophisticated and seemingly-random attacks on Israeli civilians by Palestinians have increased in recent months, reports the BBC.
Tensions have increased since the Gaza conflict last summer, in which more than 2,100 Palestinians were killed – the vast majority of whom were civilians – along with 66 Israeli soldiers and seven Israeli civilians, according to UN figures.

I CAN’T ALLOW MY WIFE HAVE MALE BEST FRIEND - DANIEL ADEMINOKAN

At the beginning of the year, star actress, Stella Damasus announced that every Monday on i2radio in Atlanta, USA, she would be hosting her talk show, ‘Undiluted with Stella Damasus’; Hard talk. No barriers. No limitations.
Yesterday, Monday, January 19, 2015, her theme was ‘should a married man/woman allow their spouses have a best friend of the opposite s3x?’
Surprisingly, one of Stella’s guests on the show was Daniel Ademinokan, her rumoured husband.
On her views on a married man/woman allowing their spouses have a best friend of the opposite s3x, she said, “For a married woman or man, I do not subscribe to having a best friend of the opposite s3x.”
On his take on same subject matter, Daniel Ademinokan explained that, "Before I got married, I had many female friends. One of them I fell in love with because we were just so fond of ourselves, but she didn’t feel the same way for me.
“From that experience, I was smart enough to know that it may not be safe and sane to discuss issues that will stir up emotions. Usually, best friends don’t set boundaries. I personally as a guy would not advice to have a best friend that is female or vice versa.
“Stay safe, the Bible says, ‘flee from all appearances of evil’. Is it possible that a man can be married and his wife is not his best friend?
“If your wife is not your best friend as a man, you have a problem. Try the best you can to make your wife your best friend. If you feel your wife doesn’t understand you, look for a guy. Not a female because emotions may stir up.
“I’m not saying you can’t have a female friend but there should be boundaries. Your character is like smoke; somehow, it will find its way out. When there are issues, don’t wait for someone else to console your spouse. I will not condone my wife having a male best friend and I myself will NOT have a female best friend."

Video: Nigerian Singer Niyola Reveals She Was Molested Has A Child

In an interview on Soundcity CityDivas show with Pearl, EME 's first lady, Niyola, revealed she was molested, like many women, while she was growing up.
"I have been molested quite a number of times. Thankfully, I haven't been raped. I have been molested by both people I never imagined would molest me...and obviously strangers as well. And it wasn't once, it wasn't twice. It wasn't three times. But what helped me was that I started to try to figure out at that time why anybody would want to do that to me or to any female. I realised it was cowardice. Alot of things could be done to prevent the situations and protect yourself. I remember for a very long time, I would never visit guys.
And when I started to live alone when I was in school, you would never come to my room for any reason. For a very long time I was paranoid. But I realised that if you share your experience with people, your fellow women, you'll find that it's not that big a deal that you can't come out & talk about it because it's not your fault that someone tried to molest you. Such people should actually be punished and brought to book."

Afro Beat legend Femi Kuti releases the remix to his lead single Politics naa Big Business off the album “No Place for My Dreams”, this remix features new school legends 2Face Idibia and Sound Sultan.

In the midst of the election season Femi Kutiin his accustomed fashion passes a strong message to Nigerians. With the hopes of making them aware that the welfare of the country lies in their hands and that they should make informed decisions in choosing a leader who will put the people first and in the long term eradicate corruption.

2face and Sound Sultan show solidarity and share the same message in what they have highlighted to be a landmark to both their careers. They rebuked the trend of voters choosing their preferred candidates on the terms who gives them a brown envelop or bags of food and encouraged more informed decision making in casting their votes.

Politics naa Big Business remix is uniquely composed and sees the best of both worlds as Femi Kutidelivers an Afro Beat masterclass with 2Faceand Sound Sultan surpassing expectations composing their verses. Politics Na Big Business: How Femi Anikulapo Kuti strikes
his chords against corrupt politicians

“The most common way people
give up their power is by thinking that they don’t have any”- Alice Walker

To look away from a woman sitting beside an open gutter, carrying
one child on her back, and holding two others on each hand is a painful choice
that most of us make because we think there is nothing else we can do. However,
in Femi Anikulapo-Kuti’s new song, Politics
na big business
he wants you to know voting honestly, counts as an effort
towards healing a Nigeria that has been hurt by bad leadership. As someone born
just 2 years after Nigeria’s independence, it must be disappointing for Femi
Kuti to look out of his window to still see an uneasy balance of hopelessness
and helplessness in the eyes of beggars on the street, or even worse, the
violent hunger that most of us translate as “ambition” or “hustle.” Usually, when
I hear my cousin’s loud voice saying; “Hmmm, you have to hustle in this Lagos
oh! Na beans?” the words come out with an energy that makes the Nigerian hustle
sound common sensical- like I have no other choice.

I agree that it isnot beans. And, yes, I do understand that the hustlers are the survivors in Nigeria. Yet, I still do not understand why this hustle has become the norm. Obviously,
everybody has their own definition, but if the word “hustle,” has to be a
separate word from “earn” (i.e to be duly worthy), why should the survival of a
new born Nigerian baby depend on the hustle game of his mother or father? Why
do I have to push someone-roughly for that matter- to attain the happiness that
we have been promised for 54 years?

Instead of finger pointing the culprits of corruption, Femi Kuti
uses a passionate and strong vocal outcry to appeal to the masses who seem to
have given up on the Nigeria of their dreams. His new song, Politics Na Big Business, reads like
those old cautionary tales I would hear from my mother as she begged me to be a
good girl on my own integrity while unsubtly warning that unwanted pregnancy
would be a sure consequence if I fail. Bathed in cool and sprightly
instrumentals, Femi Kuti repeats “Politics na big business;” these four pidgin words
sink into the mind as friendly but elderly advice as he begs Nigerians to hold
on to the worth of their votes.

Luckily for us, Femi Kuti’s concern goes beyond commentary: With all
honesty, he calls Nigerians to action; “Abeg
open your eyes open your ears, when you see politicians you better beware. Most
of them they don’t really care. Na the groundwork of their business dem they
prepare.”
On the record, Sound Sultan also drops some sound advice for the
Nigerians that are infamous for selling their votes for a bag of Garri or a box
of Indomie noodles. Sultan wants you to “tell
them you are finding food for your soul.”
So, next time Chief A or B approaches
you with a bag of parboiled rice, you can use Sound Sultan lyrics to bind and
cast those political monsters.

One of the major problems with Nigeria’s corruption is that it has
found a home in the everyday culture of the common Nigerian. The truth is that
corruption has a boomerang effect: Most times, many of us see the act of
corruption as it happens but we cannot recognize the depths of its
implications. It usually feels harmless until we become victims of the same
corruption, held hostage by someone deprived by the same system. Femi Kuti’s
song calls us to reflect: How do we allow the leaders fail us time and time
again? Are the leaders failing us or do we sell our votes to failures? Femi
Kuti, Tuface and Sound Sultan have teamed up to warn Nigerians of the lucrative
political business. Without a doubt, those three understand that it is the
emptiness of the stomach that stretches its hand to collect the tubers of yam
we are offered. But the poetic Sound Sultan uses his words of encouragement to remind
us of our human dignity: “Never let your
mouth get in the way of your mind,”
Sultan
sings.

"No Revolutionary movement is
complete without its poetic expression. If such a movement has caught hold of
the imagination of the masses, they will seek a vent in song for the
aspirations, fears, and hopes the loves and hatreds engendered by the struggle.
Until the movement is marked by the joyous , defiant singing of revolutionary
songs, it lacks one of the most distinctive marks of a popular revolutionary
movement; it is the dogma of the few and not the faith of the multitude."

Connolly, 1907

Press Statement By Buhari, GCFR, On The School Certificate Issue

$
0
0
Good Morning , Gentlemen of the Press.

I only consented to address you this morning because of the genuine concern expressed by many supporters and other well-meaning Nigerians that the issue be addressed. Otherwise, I would have dismissed it for what it is—sheer mischief and would not have considered it an issue worth the nation’s while.

I had assumed all along that all my records were in the custody of the Military Secretary of the Nigerian Army. Much to my surprise, we are now told that although a record of the result is available, there are no copies of the certificates in my personal file. This is why I formally requested my old school the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina [which is now known as Government College, Katsina] to make available the school’s copy of the result of the Cambridge/West African School Certificate. This will be made available to the press the moment this is available.

However, before we obtain that, let me say for the record that I attended Provincial Secondary School, Katsina. I graduated in 1961 with many prominent Nigerians, including General Shehu Yar’adua, former chief of staff at the Supreme Headquarters, and Justice Umaru Abdullahi, a former President of the Court of Appeal. We sat for the University of Cambridge/WASC Examination together in 1961, the year we graduated. My examination number was 8280002, and I passed the examination in the Second Division.

And although the ruling party may want to wish this away, the issue in this campaign cannot be my certificate which I obtained 53 years ago. The issues are the scandalous level of unemployment of millions of our young people, the state of insecurity, the pervasive official corruption which has impoverished our people and the lack of concern of the government for anything other than the retention of power at all costs.
Thank you very much.

General Muhammadu Buhari
