The Screen Actors Guild Awards are always a fun stop on the road to the Oscars during awards season, and this year's was certainly no exception.
Stars far and wide gathered at Los Angeles' historic Shrine Auditorium for the 21st Annual SAGs, which paid tribute to the year's best work in both television and movies.
Tonight's awards are particularly tight given that films aren't divided up between drama and musical/comedy categories, like the Golden Globes. So it was definitely a tough race!
The first award of the night went to Orange Is the New Black's Uzo Aduba for Female Actor in a Comedy Series.
The shocked star choked back tears and graciously thanked the guild, her cast and crew for helping her win the SAG honor.
The award for Male Actor in a Comedy Series went to none other than William H. Macy for his performance on Showtime's Shameless.Orange Is the New Black won for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series tonight, and the show's biggest names and faces (including the aforementioned winning actress!) graced the stage to accept their Actors.
The evening continued onto honoring film stars when it awarded Patricia Arquette withFemale Actor in a Supporting Role for her work in Boyhood.
The night's winner for Male Actor in a Supporting Role went to J.K. Simmons, who also won the Golden Globe, for his crowd-pleasing performance in Whiplash.
It's hard to believe that this many trophies were handed out and the night wasn't even remotely halfway over! Carrying on...
Mark Ruffalo wasn't in attendance this evening, but his staggering work in Foxcatcher made him the big winner of the evening.
Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong'o accepted the award on his behalf, and did so both stylishly and eloquently.
Frances McDormand won for her acting in the lead role of HBO's Olive Kitteridge and nearly stole the show with her acceptance speech.
"This is really swell and everything but I wish we could all just get cozy slippers, a box of See's nuts and chews, hang out and watch more of our work," she explained. "Because every little snippet that I see I just want to see more and more!"
About midway through the evening's festivities, Debbie Reynolds became the latest star to receive the Screen Actors Guild's Life Achievement Award for her decades-long body of work.
The legendary actress' daughter, Carrie Fisher, was on hand to present the night's top honor and stood alongside her throughout her entire acceptance speech.
Reynolds credited The Unsinkable Molly Brown as one of her favorite films, and "I Ain't Down Yet" as one of the most fun songs she's ever had to sing.
Kevin Spacey came out on top this year after winning Male Actor in a Drama Series for the Netflix hit House of Cards. Eric Dane and Emmy Rossum accepted on his behalf as Spacey was not at the awards show.
Female Actor in a Drama Series was such a jam-packed category that a whopping six stars were nominated for their performances.
But, alas, there could only be one winner of the year and the actress who earned the praisewas Viola Davis for How to Get Away With Murder.
Joan Rivers, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Williams, Jan Hooks and more stars were paid tribute during the night's emotional In Memoriam segment. It's hard to believe how many of Tinsletown's finest we've lost over the past year, but their work won't soon be forgotten.
After a brief break, the show was back to handing out the award in the category for Ensemble Drama Series for Television.
Downton Abbey was named the winning ensemble (for their mega-popular drama series, obvs.) of the night and proudly accepted the title center stage at the Shrine.
Few were surprised when Eddie Redmayne's name was called as the winner for his astounding portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
The newlywed thanked all of his fellow nominees and got understandably flustered during his acceptance speech. Seriously, could he be any more adorable?!
He dedicated the award to those living with ALS, and those who sadly have lost their lives to the terrible disease.
Matthew McConaughey presented the award for Female Actor in a Leading Role, which went to (drumroll!) Still Alice's Julianne Moore.
And the big winner of the night for best Cast in a Motion Picture? Well, it went to Birdman!
